november 16BROWSING COLLECTION – One Time A Year

by Maria Haskins

Swedish rockers Browsing Collection are back with a new tune, and this makes me so very happy. This band has a fantastic energy and vibe, captured perfectly in this new tune, ‘One Time A Year’.

More about the band from their Facebook bio:

“A big, fat, tight bitch slap” is a phrase people have been using to describe Browsing Collection’s music.

The band was founded in 2008 in the deepest forest of Skövde, Sweden, where three young girls decided to start a rock band. Out of nowhere they learned to play instruments, wrote some kick ass-songs and recorded their first EP, which was the beginning of an epic journey.

During these past years many members have come and gone, but the message has always remained: Stand up for yourself, don’t trust jerks, stay off drugs and save the planet!

EMPYRE – My Immortal

by Maria Savva

“My Immortal”, by Evanescence, is one of those classic songs that remains one of my favorites, and I’m sure many rock fans feel the same. Empyre didn’t choose an easy song to cover because the original is awesome; it’s also a song that has been covered quite a few times over the years.

I think Empyre have done an amazing job with this cover version; it has a haunting quality and Henrik Steenholdt’s voice suits the song perfectly. Empyre have a song on their EP “Something Remains” called “Only Way Out”; this version of “My Immortal” made me think of that song because the way it is sung is quite similar, with a depth of emotion that really makes you believe that the lyrics are heartfelt.

Empyre have released “My Immortal” today along with a great video. It was an obvious choice for me for my track of the day. It’s a song that complements Empyre’s previous releases well.

Get your copy of the song on iTunes.

or, Amazon.

I’m a big fan of this band and can honestly say that I love all of their songs. If you’re a rock fan you really should have their 2 EPs in your collection. Also, check out/subscribe to their Youtube channel, there are some great videos there that are well worth checking out.

You can also stream Empyre’s songs and add them to your playlists on Spotify.

The band have many gigs planned in the next few months. They’ve come a long way in the past year and are now starting to get the recognition they deserve from the music press. Try to catch them live if you can; their shows are always fantastic.

CHARLY BLISS – Ruby

by Neil Schiller

Charly Bliss are a pretty cool indie band from Brooklyn, New York. They released their debut album Guppy in April this year, and ‘Ruby’ is one of the standout tracks from this record. It reminds me of the ’90’s heyday of US alternative music where bands were fusing the musical aesthetics of grunge with nice pop melodies and an almost kitsch but very cool retro style. Although more of an ’80’s band I guess, they remind me a little bit of Transvision Vamp, although lead singer Eva Hendricks has more of a Tanya Donelly kind of vibe going, rather than that of Wendy James.

Judging by the video, they don’t take themselves too seriously. We don’t really get these low budget, Christian cable channels here in the UK, but from my imagination of what they must be like, I think they’ve probably nailed it.

Great song, weird video. You can’t really ask for much more than that.
