DEEP CUTS: Norma Macdonald Same Mistake
Norma MacDonald Same Mistakes is available on In Waves, Apple Music, SoundCloud
by Walter Price
With her gorgeous sixth studio album ‘In Waves‘ Norma MacDonald takes the listener through not only seasonal changes but musical inspiration and cultural nods as well. Blending AM-radio pop and rock, with alternative and Americana along the way. All the while mesmerizing pictures are painted and scenes forever documented.
But one track continues to draw me back to this album. It’s called “Same Mistake” and just from the title alone, you know you’re about to enter into something very empathetic. With a vibe steeped in the Helen Reddy and Karen Carpenter soft pop era, Macdonald sings, “Windy Saturday walking downtown/ I can always forget when I’m walking/ I keep thinking I’ll see you around/ Then I remember why we’re not talking…Time never tells you/ When the last piece of your heart is gonna break…”. Oh, the memories are the sweetest daggers.
With ‘In Waves‘, MacDonald continues her quest to help people feel things and if you need a little something to soundtrack your next heartbreak, there’s no better place to get started on the album than “Same Mistake”. Stream it here, at the GTC.

“The opening chords of In Waves set the record spinning in January, but the mood is wholly autumnal: lush, then resolute. A harvest and a hope.” – bio
