Self-preservation, an indelible groove, and enough “funkalicious” to induce endless dancefloor swivels and shakes, Nathalie Miranda’s recent single “U Got Soul” is a mighty throwback track.
In an open book YouTube post, Miranda shared the song’s in-depth origin story, “‘U Got Soul’ is a mantra for resilience and self-belief, a powerful message that no matter what life throws at you, as long as ‘you got soul,’ all will work out.
“Imagine you got in a time machine and traveled back in time to 70s New York…as soon as you arrive there, ‘U Got Soul’ is the song that would be blasting out of every car all over town! Inspired by the funky basslines and grooves of the 70s, ‘U Got Soul’ evokes the spirit of this experimental decade.
“I wrote this song after being fired from a job for absolutely no reason! The second verse is all about that experience…actually, it didn’t matter in the end because I really didn’t like that job! I did, infact, move on to other jobs that were more suited to me.”
You never know what’ll spark creativity, but good on us listeners that Miranda had this abrupt change in life that we get this funky and empowering hip-shaker. But, again, Nathalie Miranda has been known to drop some bangers, if you will, and “U Got Soul” slots in nicely to her catalog.

There’s a girl that I know so well
Trying to break her wicked spell
Cos you know she lost her job
Apparently for nothing
But she doesn’t let it get her down
She’s gonna turn it all around
Find a friendly face
In another place
Who will look at her and say
U got soul, soul, soul, soul…
