The recent single “Inviting” from Alaskan singer-songwriter Keeley Boyle has such a natural calm interwoven into its fabric that the message of transformation hits with a special kind of beauty.
Posted to Bandcamp, Boyle gives the song’s back story, remembering, “Inviting” took shape during “break up” in Alaska. It’s the time of year when snow berms melt and pool into parking lots, rivers and lakes break free of ice, everything is dripping, wet, and dirty. After many months of winter I find this season thrilling. The year I wrote “Inviting,” the seasonal depression I experience annually culminated as all the mess and motion that comes with melting began around me. It was such a comfort to witness, to remember that things change, change dramatically, that I would feel different in the future.”
Whether it be a seasonal thing, a personal drama, or whatever it is that has your heart and mind feeling twisted, this track’s message is one we can all relate to. This track’s meticulous production and arrangement are soft and full of surprises to help carry the sentiments along. For example, the subtle plucking of strings and Joseph Shabason’s saxophone add a timeless soul to this release. It has an almost noir jazz vibe that paints a scene. A stunning result through and through.

For more than half of the year
There’s a field of ice out your window
It’s waiting on warmer winds
To breathe its name
I’m trying for something like that
I want to soften and change
Into a body that’s everything
Something inviting…
