Today The GTC wishes a Very Happy 51st Birthday to one Michael Peter “Flea” Balzary!
Not only are you the stand-out star of Back To The Future II & III but your side job as bassist extraordinaire for the Red Hot Chili Peppers has kept you from working fast-food.
In nearly thirty years your band of Peppers have produced some of the best psychedelic funk-punk jam band style rock n’ roll that has transformed the music landscape forever.
You may not wear socks on your wiener anymore but we can understand.(Never your mind if we still do so on occasions) Life moves on and people mature. But let’s not let all that stop you from being the slappiest bass man on the earth!
What would you like to say on your day Mr. Flea?
“As a musician I’m about expressing what’s inside, and I think everyone has a song in them that they need to get out, whatever their gig is.” – Flea
“If you live a rebellious lifestyle, then you rebel against things because they go against your ideals and the integrity of who you are as a person.” – Flea
“You teach your kids about your beliefs and tell them what you think is right and the conclusions that you’ve come to from living in the world, and then they can make their own decisions.” – Flea
“I was raised to think that rock was music for ignorant people who didn’t think for themselves.” – Flea
“People often ask me…How do you guys do it? Where do you get the energy? Why is it that you are still a relevant band when so many others have come and gone during your career?. The answer to that question consists of two parts. Firstly, we are nothing but insignificant specks of shit, pawns in a cosmic spiritual realm where our universe is nothing but a dot of crusty smegma. Secondly, we work.” – Flea
