march 8BROWSING COLLECTION – Something To Hold On To

by Maria Haskins

Swedish rockers Browsing Collection is one of my favourite bands working right now. They just keep getting better and better, and their tracks always have this irrepressible joy and energy. New track “Something To Hold On To” is another keeper from the band.

THE BLACK TONES – Plaid Pants

by Neil Schiller

Ok, so ‘pants’ are trousers in the US. Here in the UK, it means underpants. I don’t think they’re singing about plaid underpants. Or maybe they are. Who knows.

The Black Tones are from Seattle and were founded by twins Eva and Cedric Walker. I first heard them on KEXP, the Seattle indie rock station that I get on my internet radio here in Liverpool. I think they’re great. I’ve seen comparisons to Cobain, I’ve seen references to Afro-Punk. Whatever. For me, they just sound like a really cool, organic and soulful version of the off-kilter kind of stuff you tend to get from the East Coast. If they remind me of anyone it’s the Yeah Yeah Yeahs I suppose. With a touch of Grace Slick from Jefferson Airplane.

At just under seven minutes, this is a bit of an epic. But it’s a good epic. A great one in fact. Looking forward to hearing more from these guys.
