Australia’s Drunk Mums are relatively new to me, but as they say— better late than never—yadda yadda yadda.

After some time away from rockin’ dusty dive bars across their homeland, the band returns with a classic mostly full-throttle no-frills, and all-thrills punk rock album that transcends time and fully embraces disregard for all the trappings of the ever-increasing complications of adulthood. Standard and hallowed punk rock riffs, plenty nods to fuck-it-all attitude and dare I say—some real tasty social conscience takes.

Of course, punk has always had its dirty lil toes in the zeitgeist, but it is mostly gnarly blood and guts daggering that has often got in the way of a good time. Drunk Mums has a better idea, the opening Ramons-esque track “New Australia” on their return LP “Beer Baby” is a to-the-point lament on the rising cost of living—err, partying—actually, the daunting task of balancing both.

There’s no reason to reinvent the punk wheel, and Drunk Mums haven’t. But what they have done on their comeback album and this song at hand is invite a good time; this is all the magic in our ever-dumbfoundedly chaotic world.
