The Fourth Wall’s recent single “Darkness of Heart” Is a cerebral ode to challenging the weight of rebirth from the fabric of the Americana fantasy. A lightweight subject matter for a noisy pop song, for sure.
As the Portland outfit’s Stephen Agustin feels the literary-inspired theme from Joseph Conrad’s “Heart of Darkness,”; “They [characters] are in a romance-less relationship, have converted to Christianity, and have been cleansed of their past, so to speak. They wonder if their investment in the American dream might resurrect some of the horrors that caused their flight in the first place.” Heady.
All this is set in a near dreamy vibe only to be disrupted by an alarming guitar siren. Uneasiness and solace work in concert to craft a blatant view of love and catastrophe; if you will. You’ll have to hear for yourself, here at the GTC.
