Oregonian singer-songwriter Daniel Nickels’ recent 3-track EP ‘Drive Us Home’ blurs the lines between southern charm, 90s alternative, and modern country. And the vibe throughout, Nickels has said, “I can sum up (the) theme of these songs in one word: change.”
The painting-a-picture songwriter has briefly explained the radio and sing-a-long ready songs. For the title track, he is quoted, “‘Drive Us Home’ is about being free, being in love, and following your heart. When I wrote it, I was feeling nostalgic for my youth and hungering to be free again.”
Track two “Walls”, “I was becoming more of a businessman than a music man, and I didn’t like it,” he says. “I knew deep down that I was not staying true to myself and my purpose. I finally realized that I needed to quit and leave my job, and my walls came down.” And lastly, the Talent Oregan singer shares the backstory of the final song, the poppy “Testify”, “This song is me standing on top of a mountain telling my wife I love her,”.
