…gotta have soul, D/TROIT Heavy LP
D/troit Heavy LP is available on Bandcamp, Apple Music, Crunchy Frog Records
by Walter Price
The effect Mowtown Records has had on popular culture is still inspiring new sounds from around the world. The most recent incarnation of the soulful, funk-ladened offerings is coming straight outta Copenhagen with the solid Bootsy Collins-approved 11-track LP “Heavy” from the aptly named outfit D/troit.
With plenty of homage to the city that made the household names out of Smokey Robinson, Mitch Ryder & The Detroit Wheels, The Funk Brothers, and David Ruffin, this album is chockful of good vibes and an abundance of groove that’ll please the most discerning of the 1960s R&B fans. Highlighted by tracks “Heavy”, “Gotta Have Soul”, “Sugar Me” and the sexy instant classic, “Love Machine”, this unexpected set of authenticity from Norway (of all places) is a powderkeg of unequivocal cool.
You can Stream “Heavy in full, here at the GTC.

“The sound is electric & reminds me of when our band The House Guests had found
the pulse of the people. D/troit is tight, energetic on steroids & Quaaludes. What an
amazing feeling to pass on to people’s ear holes.β – Bootsy Collins
