Damien Rice – ‘O’ (2002) |
“What came first – the music or the misery? Did I listen to the music because I was miserable? Or was I miserable because I listened to music? Do all those records turn you into a melancholy person? – Nick Hornby
Part 8
Damien Rice– “O” (2002)
It took a while until I found out about Damien Rice and his to-die-for music. But once I had discovered it it was a great listen every time I put it on. 2002 was the year I changed my major in college into business economics. I had no idea what I wanted to do in life and there was no way I could go wrong with that. After the first semester I was already in a group of friends and honestly we didn’t take studying very seriously (and that would be mainly me). A waste of for long semesters and I was done with that too. In my opinion you can’t study life. You have to find your calling and it might take a little suffering to get there. There is no better education than getting a job and just do it. Unfortunately most societies don’t agree with me.
Snow Patrol – “Final Straw” (2003)
I really liked Snow Patrol in their early days. Plus 2003 was a great year for some fantastic music. At least when it comes to my personal taste. What else do you need to know about 2003? It kind of marked a small milestone in my life cause it was the first year I had the unbelievable chance to work at a very special festival, the Orange Blossom Special. One of those experiences that I just won’t forget although part of it was simply to keep our VIP’s happy which in this case was just to keep the booze flowing. I would love to return one day for old times sake and catch up with some of my buddies. There is always a next year!
