BURNING WITCHES – Black Widow

by Maria Haskins

This is an absolutely killer metal track from Swiss band Burning Witches. It’s taken from the band’s upcoming album “Hexenhammer”, set for release in November from Nuclear Blast Records. It is a speeding, blazing hot tune and I love it.

Burning Witches was founded by guitar player Romana Kalkuhl in 2015 and is based in Brugg, Switzerland. The other band members are Jeanine Grob (bass), Sonia Nusselder (guitar), Seraina Telli (vocals),  and Lala Frischknecht (drums).

MINUS CUBE – Ship Of Ghosts

by Maria Savva

I’ve been following this band for a couple of years now and love their albums. I was very happy to discover that they’ve released a new single.  “Ship of Ghosts” is a haunting tune that has all the hallmarks of a Minus Cube track.

You can get the song on Bandcamp. While you’re there, check out their other music. The band are currently working on a new album.

BONES (UK) – Creature

by Neil Schiller

Not that you need reminding, I’m sure, but it’s a never-ending source of wonderment to me how rock music comes in all manner of shapes and textures and colours. Bones (UK) are from London, and ‘Creature’ is just their second single I believe. But what a single it is.

I was reading a comparison between the band and Nine Inch Nails. And I can see that. There is an electronic, almost clinical feel to the production. Not that it hits with any less force for all that. The vocal reminds me more of late 80’s/early 90’s indie than anything else – Curve, or Lush maybe. But it’s the cold, detached guitar solo that I think is the most genius touch here. I love it. All the elements come together to create something genuinely exciting and interesting I think. These are definitely going to be one to watch.

PS: great cover art to this as well. Reminds me of the film Battle Royale.
