Awe, the sweet jittery butterflies, bashful smiles, and that undeniable pitter-pat of your heart as you embark on a new relationship. Indie rockers Young Winona’s latest single, “Sadistic”, isn’t any of that. Rather, quite the opposite, I’d say.
I want to burn your house to the ground
I want to grab your neck and choke you out
I want to stab you with some broken glass
I want to throw you down a rocky pass
I want to see you begging on your knees
I want to cut you up and make you bleed
You make me feel so sadistic
You make me feel murderous…
Kinda reminds you of when The Smiths wished you an Unhappy Birthday or perhaps when Lou Reed wanted you to imbibe on razor blades. But this song, although pointed for sure, seems to be open-minded. Maybe this old-school alt-rock song is aimed squarely at a political figure, parent, a rando weirdo, or whoever makes your skin crawl. The song is in the wild, so let it fit your narrative….gritting teeth and all.
