Rich Girls have been on my fave list for what seems like forever but it has been just about a year and a half since their mind-blowing EP Fiver hit and made such a delectable impression. Since that release the three piece has made some changes to the lineup and moved their operations from California to New York but the music has continued to find us. With a killer cover of Motels’ “Total Control” and the announcement of a new album, Love is the Dealer, which should find its way to us in the Spring. And then the lovers of darker garage rock will rejoice.
Until then, the band has released a new DIY video for the track “New Bag” which will be on the new release.Front woman Luisa Black has told me the video features an un-mastered version of the song but it’s hard to tell..Sounds pretty kickass in these ears.
About all the new goings on here are some quotes from Black taken from our recent email conversation.
“We made a quick and dirty video for a new Rich Girls song. It’s called New Bag and it’s the first track on our new record called Love is the Dealer. The album will be out this spring. We didn’t have time or money to spend so we borrowed a friend’s office space and shot it in an hour. I edited it the next day. Presto. DIY video.”
“Rich Girls moved to NYC a few months ago and we have a new drummer. That’s Gavin Haag playing air snare in the video. Justin Kerr directed it. Fun fact: Justin was the tambourine player in our old band, The Blacks. He’s since moved behind the camera.”
“The video was shot at the rather posh offices of this capital investments firm in New York. We snuck in early on a Sunday morning. Somewhere there’s a corporate finance guy who doesn’t know a garage band was standing on his desk.”
As you eagerly await the new release from Rich Girls, put their new video for “New Bag” in your head…
