Truths About Eminem and Shady Records
by Walter Price
I admit that in 1999 with The Slim Shady LP I was mesmerized by the introduction of Eminem’s rap style alter-ego and authentic lyrics. Even the ones that scared me a bit.
His Detroit back story and his streets to Dr. Dre rise seemed very cool indeed. Something happened along the way that found my interest slip and I lost my excitement as his legend and complications piled up. I wish I wouldn’t have let this happen. Marshall Mathers is one of the voices that matters in a sea of MCs that only seem to taint the music scene. You know the ones. BlingΒ over longevity and substance.
Complex have created a documentary about the rise of Mathers and manager Paul Rosenberg’s label Shady Records that seems more a promo bit than anything else but there is some parts that resonate with me as a man and music fan who prefers to keep it real as it were.
Check it out and let me know what you think.
