Sounds Like 1978
The year was 1978, the year your identity crises went full tilt trying to decide between team Danny Zuko or team Tony Manero. The same year you hunkered down with a cold Michelob, watched Happy Days, The Rockford Files and The Love Boat with your Grandma and then hopped in your AMC Pacer for a night at the roller rink.
1978 was a year a new home would set you back about $13,000, a gallon of gas would run you .65 cents, Jaws 2 was dumb but stupid all in one, microwaves made things fast and confusing and a record player could run you $75, if you had it.
In 1978, the year disco was reaching its crescendo but you had different sounds rattling around your brain socket…
Because you were always ready to Flick Your Bic, here are the albums and tracks you fell for in 1978
Boomtown Rats: A Tonic For The Troops (June 1978)
Elvis Costello: This Year’s Model (17 March 1978)
Nick Lowe: Jesus Is Cool (UK) / Pure Pop For Now People (US) (March 1978)
The Clash: Give ‘Em Enough Rope (10 November 1978)
The Cars: The Cars (6 June 1978)
The Police: Outlandos d’Amour (2 November 1978)
Because the Bee Gees are cool now, they just didn’t rock your greasy corduroy slacks at the time…
Three Times A Lady was cool and confusing…
