…shake my head, SKATELAND Wreck
Skateland Wreck is available on Apple Music, Deezer, Tidal
by Walter Price
As Dorian Williams II’s moniker Skateland continues its rise to indie royalty status, let’s go back to 2022 and their single “Wreck”. An ethereal shoegaze gem that’s already had comparisons to Beach House, St. Vincent, and the like. But let’s not let comparisons cloud the reality that Dorian Williams II is an unequaled original.
When he sings in metaphors and lets realities blend effortlessly with dream states., there’s an uncanny beauty in emerging ourselves in the arrangement and lyrics becoming one organism. Like floating on this storyteller’s consciousness. And with just a handful of brilliant releases, this indelible songwriting and production style is just the start of something for generations of chill pop fans.
You can stream “Wreck”, here at the GTC.

“…It’s funny because I’m actually a pretty happy guy. But writing, you know, it ends up being melancholy for me because that’s sort of my way of just dealing with the things of life. Writing is a fun form of catharsis where you can sort of sum up the feelings that you’re having in a therapeutic way, just put them down on paper. So I find myself writing sadder things because I’m literally transferring them away from me and on to something else. And I feel better after.” – Skateland [KUTX]
