There is no denying the American Southern Rock influences Spain’s Red Beard (Jaime Jiménez) exudes. Respectful odes to what The Marshall Tucker Band, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Allman Brothers established decades before. But over recent histories, many artists have tried to capture the magic, the power of Ed King and Duane Allman to varying degrees of success. What they were ultimately lacking is the regard and understanding of the beloved forefathers of this hallowed rock genre.

Jiménez, who has the aesthetic of Waylon, seems to have the soul of Jacksonville Florida coursing through his veins. A studied authenticity that could only come from an artist who believes and thrives on the heritage of Southern Rock. A brilliant example of this realness comes from his new single “A Place To Settle Down”, from the album ‘Dakota’. The odes to Skynyrd’s signature tune are obvious and I’d normally shun such blatant nods, but this is no ordinary performer. This is the real deal. Rest assured, Ronnie and Ed, are smiling from above…

For those about to rock, Red Beard is here.
