POP (culture) ATTACKS!! VIDEO: ALLI NEUMANN – “Monster” (Lewis Lloyd, director)
Alli Neumann – ‘Monster’ EP is available @ iTunes.
by Walter Price
It’s only been a short minute since burgeoning German pop sensation Alli Neumann dropped her last dazzling EP, ‘Hohes Fieber’ (High Fever). But that hasn’t stopped the artist/performer/actor from releasing 5 fresh tracks with the new ‘Monster’ EP. And the recent dark and bouncy single by the same name is a blast from the past. This familiar throwback sound is provided by legendary producer/arranger Franz Plasa behind the studio knobs. And his past work with Nena and Falco shines brightly through. Which is an impeccable fit for Neumann’s retro-style of serious musings wrapped in bouncy dancefloor romps.
The Lewis Lloyd directed film for the single is an examination of the ridiculousness and unwavering love/addiction for pop-culture. The 50s/60s era Hollywood B-film monster, the 80s, music, and the lackadaisical way we accept (foreign or domestic) government’s increasingly meddling in our lives…sound fun? It really is a brilliant good time. Hands-down, the most entertaining music video of 2019, so far…Bravo.
