Dedicated to the memory of Ben Golomstock, who passed in 2018, the new reincarnation of Miranda Sex Garden’s recent single, a repurposed demo/catalog track, “Velventine” is an ethereal and haunting beauty to bringing the outfit into the now while keeping their past alive.
One commenter said it best on Facebook when she gave her short and to-the-point review: “Lyrically erotic and beautiful, like the viewer is inside of a blooming rose.” Poetic love for a 6-minute+ goth opus that’s more akin to an out-of-body experience than a terra firma sequestered work of art.
Katharine Blake’s vocals continue to be in captivating form, the blend of the old and new musicianship is magnetic, the synths and guitar are soul-piercing blades, and the powers surging through this song are palpable. Making the news that I missed MSG at our city’s Wave-Gotik-Treffen all the more painful.
