MARSHALL DANE No Need to Speak
Marshall Dane, No Need to Speak is available on Apple Music, Tidal, Deezer
by Walter Price
Teaming up with one of my favorite songwriters Rosanne Baker Thornley, Marshall Dane has released a good old-fashioned heartstrings puller. Dane, via YouTube, says of “No Need to Speak”, “A song inspired by the Deaf and made for the world to shed light on understanding and listening with your eyes.—I started learning Sign Language in 2017…and since then..my life has changed dramatically for the better.”
The notion of writing songs for the hearing-impaired is as poetic as rhythm itself, which is made all the better by Dane’s country rock smoothness and Thornley’s whispers throughout. All in all, this song is pretty and it feels close. And if the song doesn’t do it for you right off the bat, there’s a gorgeously done music video as well…
You can stream “No Need To Speak” and see its short film, here at the GTC.

“What also sets Marshall apart is his use of American Sign Language (ASL) to communicate with the Deaf community. As the son of a minister, he was raised with a strong sense of compassion and inclusivity which extends to his music and his dedication to helping others. By incorporating ASL into his performances, he not only makes his music accessible to the Deaf, but he also raises awareness of this community.” – Bio
