UK’s true to the bone troubadour Mark J Lee (Screamin’ Miss Jackson) is out with his first proper release since disbanding his last outfit, Howlin’ Lord. The new six-track Through The Pines wears its influences on its sleeves. From the first listen you’ll travel reminiscently through thoughts of Willie, Marty Robbins, Dylan, J.J. Cale, and Cash.
No surprise that the musicianship is top notch and the songwriting is tactile and earnest. A notable quality on this release is the no-frills production. Hearing the changes in recording in each track is a genuine indie plus. And Lee’s delivery is as raw and honest as you’d expect from this seasoned artist. If you’re already a fan of Lee’s you will find some familiarity along with freshness that’ll prolong your fandom.
