Where lies the power—letting go? Or is there a pre-therapy/Valium craze realization that an evergreen fuck you holds its own potent reasonable energy? This plight seems to be the backbone of Lotta St. Joan’s track, “Always”.

From her spellbinding ‘Song for the Undecided‘ LP, “Always” stands out as a begrudged anthem for not letting go of the pain. Better yet, let the hurt stand as a testament to what was. Joan vows, “Hold no grudge it taints the heart/ I’d rather have you take that part/ I’ll hold it til the very end…”. Let that sink in a bit…Closure is what you make it. Here, with the track’s naturalistic fingers across guitar strings and raw vocals, the passionate and individual experience is played out in complete frankness, and, yes, it’s as powerful as a therapy session can be.

You can stream the beauty of holding onto the resentment of “Always” here at the GTC.

“Always” is out. It’s a gentle protest song against the saying: “you can only forget if you forgive“. In my head this song has always been placed at the water. Like some willow trees like to do: dip their hair into the water and just be still and wait.” LSJ (Facebook)
