Freedom’s Child WKND SPIN: LAZER LLOYD – “All Along the Watchtower”
Lazer Lloyd – Freedom’s Child is available @ Apple Music.

by Walter Price
Going his own way singer-songwriter Lazer Lloyd’s 2017 masterstroke ‘Freedom’s Child’ is one of those albums that continues to grow on you each and every time its compassionate authenticities drift from your speakers. Filled with homegrown truths like “Letters”, “America”, and “Esqueça do Mundo (Forget the World)” taking us down Americana paths, as “Good Woman”, “God Money and Woman”, and “We Are All God’s Children” offer up blues and spiritual drenched soundscapes.
And on track 7, a song that has been covered more often than most by many a socially conscious performer, Lloyd’s take of Dylan’s “All Along the Watchtower” moves differently. The conversation between the Joker and the Theif takes shape less blazing-Hendrix or U2’s post-punk styles and more of a soaring showcase of Lloyd’s respect for humanity and the iconic importance of the song itself. Here, subtle nuances and all, the balance between delicate and raw emotional power is a tactile soul-stirrer.
At some point along the way, Lazer Lloyd decided that the best path in music, and perhaps not the most lucrative, is, to tell the truth. ‘Freedom’s Child’ is twelve full blown realities worth more with every listen.
Take “All Along the Watchtower” for a spin and add it to your weekend/summer playlist, We have, GTC WKND SPIN.
