Why should breakups be so devastating? What if you were comfortable enough being you that you took the loss in stride? Oh, and then you wrote a brilliant EP chock full of upbeat odes to such a dissolution? Look no further than Ladysse’s debut EP, ‘Not the One’. Detroit based Californian multi-instrumentalist Stephanie Lauren has a charm that could take any subject matter and turn it into sunshine. A perfect example is the track “Stay Apart”. The lyrics speak for themselves but its the singer’s delivery, 80’s reminiscent beat and synths, the lighter than air atmosphere that intrigues and bounces. Going solo never sounded so fresh. A great track to add to your car windows down playlist on number 11 summer days…be yourself.
