Get An Earful

By Walter Price

As usual the universe is busy with fresh new sounds from a diverse variety of artists. Here is a few of the sounds we’re checking out and you should have on your radar.

We’ll be looking directly in the eyes of a down-under roadhouse rock outfit, a smokey voiced folked-up wonder, Georgia sisters in life and sounds and a twitchy cool San Fran garage rock band.

So let’s get busy and get an earful of these fresher than fresh sounds and don’t forget to Rock N’ Roll…

Dirt River Radio – ‘All My Friends’ (Bad Reputation Records)

Members: Heath Brady, Danger Alexander, Kellie Fernando-Bird, Ross Hetherington, Mark Down Prices, Sarah Fagan

These Australians are roadhouse blues-country-rock at its gritty hell yeah best with a softer side that will smooth out any variation of a hangover.

Pauline Andrès – ‘All Them Ghosts’

Members: Pauline Andrès

French by birth with the spirits of a thousand noir lit nightclubs coursing through her veins and a voice conveying well-worn observations, Pauline Andrès will stick to your soul.

Larkin Poe – ‘Kin’ (Out 21 October 2014 via RH Music)

Members: Rebecca & Megan Lovell, Robby Handley, Marlon Patton

This Georgia sister act are already music veterans and their killer pop/bluesy/roots sounds are simply polished fun. Bonus: What caught my attention was their bathroom produced rendition of Black Betty…Everything else fell into place.

Rich Girls – ‘fiver’ (Out 7 October 2014 via Breakup)

Members: Luisa Black, August Churchill, Chris Sipe

Links: Facebook / Label

There is something going on over at San Francisco’s Breakup Records and one of the highlights is the airy garage rock threesome Rich Girls. Front woman Luisa Black could be the spawn of Hope Sandoval and 1977 Iggy Pop.Only the three know the truth…

Get ready, On 7 October Lo-fi justice will be served…
