EP Review: Field Trip – Evening’s Over
Field trip is on Bandcamp.
by Walter Price
Galway, Ireland’s pop-rock outfit Field Trip, not to be confused with the plethora of other bands of the same name, have a fresh five-track EP titled ‘Evening’s Over’ (Citog Records). The release is filled with Lemonheads, Dinsaur Jr., and Teenage Fanclub riffs and lyrical heft. Take those comparisons and add a brilliant splash of 60’s era California power-pop, and you’ll be on your way to getting the vibes this outfit is laying out.
The subtle harmonies of Wayne Foy and Sean Walsh are certainly highlights on ‘Evening’s Over’. As well as the creeping yet obvious garage-rock influences in the arrangments. Field Trip is one of those bands that you flat-out know that over production would ruin their atmospheres. Let’s hope that never happens.
All in all, ”Evening’s Over’ is a great album to dig your summer teeth into, all year round.
