Drive-By Truckers: Alabama Ass Whuppin’

“Alabama Ass Whuppin'”
out on 10 September 2013

For those of who do not know, which is cool, Athens, GA has produced some of the best if not influential modern rock, country, singer/songwriter and everything in between since the dawn of recorded music.

Names like: REM, Vic Chestnutt, Danger Mouse, B-52’s, Love Tractor, Japancakes, Dead Confederate, Elf Power, The Orkids, Widespread panic, Ponderosa, The Whigs and so on.

Today we are going to talk about another one of Athens’ greats, Drive-By Truckers and their masterful reissue, Alabama Ass Whuppin’. First recorded in 1999 and released in 2000, it has been out of print for some time now. And I guess due to the growth in their popularity, without losing their indie edge, they have decided it was time to unleash(again) this beast of a live album.

If you’re like me,You’ll really love tracks like “18 Wheels of Love”, “Too Much Sex (Too Little Jesus)”, “Steve McQueen”, “The Living Bubba” and “Don’t Be In Love Around Me”. Good times my friends! This is a must get. And talk about ‘get’, this re-issue will be available on vinyl…

If you enjoy your music to be southern rock mixed with country and alt-rock then Drive-By Truckers are the band for you to get started in knowing. I didn’t see any European dates on their current outing but I’ll keep you posted!

The GTC Recommends:’A Blessing and a curse’ (’06), ‘Pizza Deliverance’ (’99), ‘Brighter That Creator’s Dark’ (’08) and ‘The Dirty South’ (’04)
