CBGB The Movie

There has been much said about famed club CBGB. But if you haven’t heard of this legendary NYC club (1973-2006) I bet you’ve been a fan of an act or two who, luckily or unluckily, had the chance to play on that dirty little stage early on in their careers.

Ramones, Talking Heads, Joan Jett, B-52’s, Misfits, Television, Murphy’s Law, Sick Of It All, The Cramps just to name a very few.

I have been within the sacred walls of CBGB 60-70 times during my stint in New York and it was a horrible place to be in. Smelled of dead people, poop, puke and armpits. The bar was warped and hard to hang at, the bathrooms should have been condemned in the 80’s and the sound was amazingly bad.

And that is why I and thousands of others loved it so.

Now, there is a movie chronicling  Hilly Kristal’s infamous haunt. Called, wait for it….CBGB. The film is due to hit theaters in October.

What I’m excited about is the soundtrack due out October 8th. Featuring the Crème de la crème of the NYC underground music scene. Check out some of the track listing below and grab a copy on release.

“Life During Wartime” – Talking Heads
“Kick Out the Jams (Uncensored Version)” – MC5
“Chatterbox” – New York Dolls
“Caught With the Meat in Your Mouth” – Dead Boys
“Sunday Girl (2013 Version)” – Blondie
“I Can’t Stand It” – The Velvet Underground
“I Wanna Be Your Dog” – The Stooges
“Psychotic Reaction” – The Count Five
And more…

My biggest regret about CBGBs is that I never had the chance to take my wife before it closed…
