Life can throw you curve balls, and change course with the wind, and new beginnings are marked by those unforgettable moments that’ll linger for eternity. Songwriter Turner Porter knows this all too well. Speaking about his new single, “Ain’t Goin’ Back” (Live On WDET), he’s posted on Bandcamp, “Recorded live on my birthday (April 4th) and the day I found out I was a father to be. It’s a message to my wife and to myself while living on the east side of Detroit and feeling extremely low.”
This new one finds Porter in a powerfully raw form and along with his signature sound, many of his singer-songwriter contemporaries’ influences can be heard in his tone and phrasing. “If wishes were wild horses/ You know beggars would just ride/ Out there on the badlands/ While I’m grinding on the line/ Steal me every red cent/ Hold it tight, won’t fade to black/ You know baby we ain’t going back…”, Porter sings in a voice that knows nothing will ever be the same.
Following Turner Porter through his music and open-book social media, you know this storyteller is on a journey and he’s willing for us all to tag along. Will do.
You can stream “Ain’t Goin’ Back”, here at the GTC.

Take this poor downriver kid
Make a mountain out of him
New Year’s in and New Year’s out
I’m gonna get me a little win
We got our little lives off track
Baby, we ain’t goin’ back…
