Going back a spell to the year 2010 when bands would often debut their new works of beautiful geníus to sights like MySpace. A site where I stumbled across many a great artist or outfits that I still follow and to this very day one such collective is Sweden’s masterclass purveyors of blues-soaked roots and Americana, Hellsingland Underground. So it was quite the tickling of the nostalgic senses when I heard one of the band’s earlier sincere story songs wafting from a neighboring car stereo at a German traffic light a few months back.
“Vera”, featuring the gorgeous harmonies of Helena Ahlbäck, from HU’s ‘Madness & Grace‘ LP tells the story of a 100+-year-old woman residing in Ljusdal, SE, and her sentimental journies. Faith, dreams of streets paved with gold, and there’s no place like home—Vera could still recall them all in this bittersweet ode to a life lived. Now, as it did at its release, this classic HU track reminds us that listening and learning from the aged is pure beauty incarnate.
So slip back in time just a bit and stream the reminiscing “Vera” here at the GTC.
