“My mother used to tell me about vibrations. I didn’t really understand too much of what she meant when I was a boy. It scared me, the word ‘vibrations’ – to think that invisible feelings existed. She also told me about dogs that would bark at some people, but wouldn’t bark at others, and so it came to pass that we talked about good vibrations.”, Brian Wilson, Rolling Stone Magazine.

“Good Vibrations” has a storied history, to say the least. The seminal song by the Beach Boys was composed, tweaked, and labored over for what seemed like an eternity. Costing an unheard of $50,000, which, in the mid-1960s, was an ungodly sum for a pop song. But Wilson had a vision. One that, as it seems, was nearly unattainable. But with flower-power lyrics by Mike Love, the track has gone on to be one of the most recognizable songs of an era and a staple of any musicophile.

This is now, and UK composer, singer-songwriter Saer has a redux that takes the listener deep into ethereal expanses. As a quote posted to SoundCloud confirms, “A dark and stormy take on a Beach Boys classic. With an electronic interpretation in tribute to the harmony masters, this production walks a line between the beautiful and sinister; from ethereal soundscapes to an explosive chorus.”

Saer’s reworking is meticulous and soul-stirring with all the respect for the sonic exploration of the original fully intact. An absolute stunning result and you can stream his cover version of “Good Vibrations” alongside the original (remastered), now at the GTC.

The original has always been a huge influence and Wilson’s use of harmony within his music is incredible. I wanted to stay true to the masterpiece but perform within a dark and stormy context. Vibrations became explosions with this alternative take on a surfing classic.” – Saer
