When LA rocknrollers Broken Baby took to social media to announce, “We did it. We wrote the perfect song.”, you can be sure of two things. First, you can be certain it’ll be a banger and secondly, The Perfect Song will have sneering baggage hidden underneath the clever title.
And, yes, “The Perfect Song” is both. Vocalist Amber Bollinger sings, “I’m gonna gonna/ Be the next one
Next one/ I’m gonna gonna/ Smile until my teeth run/ Lube it up until I get soft/ Then I’ll rip my head off—This is how you be/ PERFECT…”. I think the scenario is built up here and is pretty self-explanatory. No? Ok, Bollinger twists the dagger further, “You’re all invited/ To the after party/ Forget your shit/ And just bring your body/ A little plastic for the best dressed/ I swear you’ll be in heaven…”.
Now, whatever the next big thing is or who may invite you to the cool kids’ table etc. etc, it’s all a phony baloney game, and it’s a dangerous disease. That’s the message I’m hearing. But, again, BB’s Bollinger and Alex Dezen are wordsmiths of the most powerful kind. So, soak it up and see how it lands on you.
