Robyn Hitchcock Emma Swift – Love Is A Drag 7″ (out now)
by Walter Price
Singer/songwriter partners in life and craft, Robyn Hitchcock and Emma Swift have returned with their new starlit drive of a single, “Love Is A Drag” (Tiny Ghost Records). This is their first release since their first release, brilliant “Follow Your Money” (Yep Roc) in 2015.
“Love Is A Drag” explores that familiar tactile thought of, “Am I alone in this?” and delivered in that melancholy and honest tone Swift is becoming famous for. When Hitchcock joins in for the harmonies the sensitivity and isolated scenery deepens. This depth is palatable, the beauty.
Via email; Emma Swift had this to say about the single “Love Is A Drag” and its B-side “Life Is Change” inceptions, “in the middle of a desolate winter on the Isle of Wight, Hitchcock planted the seed and I finessed lyrics, structure and thematic ideas. It was a depressing, grey time and the songs reflect that. There were no leaves on the trees and we’d moved to a retirement village by the sea to start a new romance. Strange times.”
In other news, both Hitchcock and Swift have announced they are each working on new solo albums.
