I know I’m reaching this album a full three years after release but a quick introduction is in need. Danielle Howle + Firework Show’s story combination of the sounds found and worshiped in late night honky tonks and roadhouses across the U.S. pulling from blues, rock, folk and enough greasy grit to maintain pure soul. Their raw around the edges 2012 album New Year Resolutions is a cool romp through these genres with thoughts of Raitt, JT Coldfire and Etheridge led by vocalist Danielle Howle and held together by an extremely talented band that draw and ease the listener into swaying motions as the stories unfold. The rhythm section is the backbone here as everything rides within its movements. This isn’t modern hipster takes on music, this is the real deal that I can perfectly imagine needs to be heard in a wood planked music-halls as drinks and smoke linger endlessly.
